The spectacular Double O Arch is aptly named. The formation comprises two large arches stacked on top of each other in the same fin of rock. The larger “O” stretches 71 feet (21 m) across while the smaller arch below measures approximately 21 feet (6 m) across.
This strenuous hike requires some rock scrambling and negotiating narrow ledges during the 4.5 mile (7.24 km) round trip trek. This is a primitive trail where route finding can be difficult at times, so caution must be taken to stay on the correct trail. There is little shade along the way. Because of its difficulty few tourists embark on this quiet journey to solitude. The arch is spectacular and worth the trip for those with the endurance to complete the more difficult sections.
Double O Arch is part of the Devils Garden Trail which includes the famous Landscape Arch. From the main trail, other side trails lead to Navajo Arch, Partition Arch, Private Arch, and others. This trail is abundant with stunning arches and beautiful scenery. Plan to carry extra water, and start early in the day to avoid the heat.
